Braid is a writing app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. This policy explains what happens to your information.
The short version
Your writing is yours. Braid has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We (the developer) never receive your books, notes or recordings.
Where your data lives
- On your devices, in Braid’s private storage.
- In your own iCloud account, if iCloud is turned on for Braid, so your books sync between your devices. This is Apple’s service, covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy. The developer can’t access your iCloud data.
Features that use your device or other services
- Microphone: used only when you record a voice note. Recordings are stored with your book.
- Speech recognition and handwriting recognition: turn recordings and handwriting into searchable text. They run on your device where supported. For a language your device can’t transcribe by itself, Apple’s speech recognition service may process the recording, under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Apple Music: if you connect it, Braid reads your playlists so you can choose one to play while writing. Nothing is sent to us.
- Research links: when you add a web link, Braid fetches that page (and, for YouTube, YouTube’s public video information) to fill in the title, author, date and preview. Those sites receive a normal web request from your device.
- Grammar suggestions: use Apple’s on-device model where available. Your text isn’t sent anywhere.
- Sharing and feedback: documents you export or send are shared only with the people and apps you choose. When you invite readers in Braid, the chapters you pick are shared through iCloud with only the people you invite. End Review stops sharing them.
- Purchases: Braid Pro is sold through Apple. Apple handles payment; we receive no payment details.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Your books, notes and recordings stay until you delete them. Delete a whole book with Books › Delete This Book…, or a single chapter, scene or note with Delete. With iCloud on, this also removes it from your other devices.
- Deleting the app removes the copy on that device but not the one in iCloud. To remove Braid’s iCloud data, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Braid on iPhone or iPad, or System Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage on a Mac.
- You can turn off Braid’s access to the microphone, speech recognition, Apple Music and notifications at any time in your device’s Settings.
- The developer holds none of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete. If you have questions, email support@keesnap.com.
Children
Braid doesn’t knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
